Backed by the success of a finals appearance at all three events this season, Wanneroo Stonemason Al Puglia heads into this weekend’s Night of Fire at the top of the leader board for the Perth Motorplex Super-Comp Track Championship.
Puglia’s consistency is perhaps his greatest weapon, but this weekend, the AHG/Big Rock Toyota/Nuford/Stonecivil/Termimesh team will aim for nothing less than a win to continue their campaign.
“We’re twenty five points ahead of Errol Quartermaine and Andrew Katavatis who are two guys you just can’t let loose. Errol’s won a national title in the past and Andrew is getting quicker every meeting so we have to take those guys seriously if we want to keep the lead,” he said.
Although famous for his consistency and lightning reaction times, Puglia is not about to rest on his laurels when it comes to the chase for a fifth championship.
“It’s great that we have the consistency but a win would put us in a great spot coming into the second half of the season,” Puglia said from his Wanneroo based workshop.
And sounding a warning to his rivals, Puglia revealed that after this weekend, the Allen Puglia Racing Probe will return to housing the Pro Stock engine for the remainder of the season.
“We’re really looking forward to getting the “big girl” back in the car, and during the off season, John Barbagallo upgraded the engine and found some more horsepower on the dyno. Having the extra horsepower should have us back on or around ‘personal best’ territory again too, but if the stars align, we could even eclipse our best runs.”
The new look AHG Razorback Ford Probe will take to the quarter mile for the first round of qualifying at noon this Saturday with the first round of competition just after 6pm when the USA Jet Dragsters launch into the Night of Fire.
