Sydney Dragway’s Race 4 Real off street events have been going from strength to strength with the track investing much time in promoting and enhancing the weekly Wednesday nights for both racers and spectators.
Sydney Dragway’s Race 4 Real events regularly hit the 180 maximum entries with over a thousand spectators in the stands. The night’s entertainment is not just the racing and burnouts, but stunt bike shows, big screen entertainment and high level of crowd interaction, on track there is always a few surprises with a few more serious machines selected to run.
Weather for the January 22nd night was a little sketchy which effected numbers, though there was still a good roll up of racers and spectators, here are some highlights.
As usual you never know what will show up, how cool is this big block Corvette Super Sedan using the night to make a debut?
Driver Jonathon Woodward made a couple of launches.
Australian Super Street champion Carl Taylor has begun preparing for a title defence, enlisting the help of icon Graeme Cooper.
Rod Barchet has stuck the giggle gas on his Destroyer and was doing a little tuning in.
Benny Tran’s Civic takes no prisoners, the aspirated four banger runs into the low 10 second zone.
David Muscat has probably done more runs and taken more reaction time prize money than any one at Race 4 Real with his street car. David has been building a dedicated Super Street Falcon in the background for many years and finally it has hit the track.
The former Street Fighter track champion was still running in the 357ci Clevo Falcon to a 11.7 easing off to 104mph. David commented on the need for a spring adjustment as it was launching really hard on the right tyre and could not stall it up to his liking without the car pushing through the beams. Technical issues aside, David is looking forward to moving into Super Street this season.
Some nostalgia with Ryan Winley and Sonny Ward in classic Chevrolets.
Something of a different ride for Sydney Super Street gun Stan Nikitaras, 12.42 best for the tough sounding circuit Falcon though.
For fans of engines that go round and round, David Ellis’ RX3 clocked 12.84/121mph.
A new customer RX2 from Pac Performance driven by Andrew Minkus had a few teething problems but skidded up a storm.
Single spinner front wheel skids from Reed Southerton’s Lancer.
Alan Vella normally seen in a Capri now in a Falcon, 12.02/111mph best on the night.
Brett Morgan hit the track then tortured the Commodore in the burnouts.
Car groups utilise the night for social outings, tonight there were a bunch of MX-5’s.
Steve Gosbee’s version was not shy in the burnouts and 14 flat is not bad down the track.
11.7/116mph for John Walker’s tray back would suggest it’s not stock.
We don’t think this RX7 owner votes for the Greens.
