Rapisarda Autosport International will race at Perth Motorplex for the first time since February 2015 at round three of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, April 8-9, with drivers Wayne Newby and Damien Harris.
The team will be looking to repeat the success from their last appearance at the venue when Harris walked away with wins in both races at the two-day meeting. That result set Harris and tuner Santo Rapisarda Jnr on a trajectory, culminating in their winning the 2014-15 Australian Top Fuel Championship.
“My boys and the team are excited to be returning to race at the Motorplex,” said team owner Santo Rapisarda. “When I saw that we hadn’t been at the track since 2015, I was surprised. Those seven years have disappeared in a blink – the last time we raced there, it was over the traditional quarter-mile distance.
“For several team members, it will be their first time at the track. The W.A. fans have always been very welcoming when the Top Fuel teams from Sydney and Brisbane have travelled across the country to race at the Motorplex. We have done well there in the past and are really looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans.”
The sea-level Perth Motorplex is a record setting venue, and the RAI team can draw on their U.S experience for potential world class performances to make a championship move. Coming from a strong results at Sunset Strip, Mildura, in March, where Wayne Newby was runner up and sits poised at fourth in the championship, while Harris who had a solid event winning the B-Final in Mildura but has given the field a head start after missing the first event of the championship.
