The Rapisarda Autosport International/ Dom Lagana combo ran their quickest pass since joining the NHRA tour in 2010, a breathtaking run of 3.76/520kmh to nail down tenth spot as part of the quickest Top Fuel field ever assembled in the 63 year history of drag racing.
The Australian team’s previous best of 3.78 sec was recorded at the U.S. Nationals in September. For 29 year old Lagana this was also his career quickest ever run, eclipsing his 3.78 sec pass at the U.S. Nationals, where he made his debut with RAI.
Despite team owner Santo Rapisarda’s absence from the event, the whole team made sure he knew what was going on in Pomona.
“We spoke to dad back home in Sydney and he’s over the moon. It was a killer track and Dom returned the car with no damaged parts. This is our best ever NHRA performance,” said Santo Rapisarda Jr.
The team solved fuel issues from day one of qualifying and went into day two with a similar set up, leaving the car to do the rest.
Team driver Dom Lagana was equally upbeat about the team’s historic run.
“The car took off like a rocket ship and I was headed to the moon,” Lagana said.
