“This is our best result yet.” Declared Santo Rapisarda after the family owned fuel car qualified in sixth spot at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Norwalk Ohio.
“We went into day two in sixth spot and held our place over the two final rounds of qualifying. On Sunday we go up against T.J.Zizzo and for the first time since we joined the NHRA series go into race day as favourites.
“We ran a 3.91/301 mph for sixth place while Steve Torrence top qualifies with a 3.82/319 mph and the likes of Morgan Lucas and Brandon Bernstein just squeeze into the field. I’m really proud of my boys and how the team performed under the really tough conditions.”
For the second consecutive day teams battled with track temperatures soaring above 140 F, however welcome relief is in sight. The forecast for Sunday race day is cooler, overcast conditions in the mid 80’s.
The performance of the Oz team also drew praise from three- time Fuel champ Larry Dixon. “Santo’s team has made real strides over the last couple of events. It’s a credit to Junior and Santino who have taken to tuning a fuel car like ducks to water. The team deserves to do well on Sunday.”
