Record consolation for Marchant team

Adam Marchant and the Marchant Family Racing Team didn’t get their Nitro Champs campaign off to the most auspicious of starts but recovered to set a new national record in the end.

In the warm up before qualifying they banged a motor, leading to a massive thrash to strip it down to a block and put it back together in time for the rain-delayed first session.

“If not for the drizzling rain we would not have made that one qualifying lap that netted a solid 5.61/258 even with deep staging,” Adam said. “The crew did their great work like always, turning the car around for the next lap and Daniel (crew chief) said all the data looked good for quicker times.

“The next lap was a team PB with a 5.517 at 253 which only moved us to second spot in a super tough field, the final lap of the night was going to be a quicker one but a fogged out helmet forced me to shut it off early. But a 5.53 at 241 backed up the 5.517 as a new TA/D record, though we missed the speed back up.”

After the positive by the end of qualifying race day again saw things come unstuck as the car rolled the beams in round one against Debbie O’Rourke.

“The car started moving and I was unable to grab it and save the run which resulted in a red light lose for the team,” Adam said.“But that’s racing; we had a fantastic meet, gained  good data and head to the Fuchs Winternationals having found two things that need addressing to move the team forward.

“Thanks to all our hard working crew Ben Walker, Peter and Jake Brooks and Jeff Kersting plus our sponsors M&J Walkers and Steel Haulers.”
