Ben Bray’s qualifying performance during day one of the Honeywell Garrett Brisbane Jamboree presented by Link ECU and Tuners Edge saw him write his name into the record books.
While day two of the event at Willowbank Raceway was unfortunately cancelled due to rain, day one certainly went well for Team Bray Racing’s Gulf Western Oil Toyota Solara.
In the first qualifying hit-out, Bray set new ET and MPH personal bests with a 6.46 second run at 217 miles per hour. While Q2 was aborted with a trans brake issue discovered in the start-up area, the third and final qualifier for the day saw TBR walk away with a 6.544-second pass at 220.40 miles per hour – another new MPH personal best.
As a result of these passes, Bray now holds the Australian ET and Speed records for 1FZ powered cars and is the fastest outside of North America for the engine type. He also is now listed amongst the top 50 sport compact runs in the world.
“Before this event, our tuner Justin Simpson and I wanted to improve on our Gulf Western Oil Winternationals semi-final PB of 6.639 seconds at 209.39mph and maybe run a 6.4-second pass before the weekend was over,” Bray explained.
“Well we did that and some more! It is no secret that I always want to go well at Jamboree and to set a new PB for elapsed time and two PBs for mile per hour, plus claim the Australian records for ET and MPH for a 1FZ powered car and be the fastest outside of North America is pretty cool,” Bray said.
“They tell me that I am also the owner of one of the top 50 sport compact passes in the world now as well. We have been working so hard on this car and its combination so to break through for these kinds of results is just fantastic.
“It is a shame we didn’t get to see what we could do on race day – everyone who knows me knows that the Jamboree is close to my heart, I love the event and the concept and I think Jamboree Australia has done a brilliant job.”
Team Bray Racing now turns its attention to a testing program for its Pro Slammers at Willowbank Raceway ahead of the next 400 Thunder championship round which will be held at Sydney Dragway in November.
