RESULTS: 2022 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship Rd 1

Phil Read in the Jim Read Racing/Hydraulink Top Fuel Dragster was the inaugural winner in the new Burson Auto Parts Top Fuel Championship at Sydney Dragway last night.

Rain from qualifying day abated delivering close to perfect Summer conditions for Top Fuel racing at Sydney Dragway. Read took the first event title of the new series with a classic holeshot race over PremiAir Racing’s Peter Xiberras – 3.89 to 3.82.

Phil Lamattina wrapped up third in the FUCHS dragster by a nose cone with a 3.88 to American – steering for Rapisarda Autosport International.- Larry Dixon’s 3.89.

Rob Cassar set the pace with consistency all event aboard his Top Fuel Motorcycle Kawasaki, but the underdog effort unfortunately just fell short in the final against the monster Nitro Voodoo machine of Chris Matheson 6.71 to 7.05.

Pro Stock, and Victorian Rob Dekert was a class act all event, the fledgling Pro Stock team lived in the low 6.90s all event with their Unique Racing GXP and came out on top in final with a 6.967 against Clint George who bumped through the beams.

Zoran Gajic won out in the Pro Mod blower versus turbo war. The twin turbo GAS Racing Mustang was dialled into the 5.85 index with a 5.87 in the final defeating Jeremy Callaghan’s Camaro.

A cracking Extreme Bike final delivered side by side six second 200MPH runs. Leonard Azzopardi on ‘Out Run’ blistered to a 6.907/211MPH to just ride around Alex Borg’s 6.958/210MPH lap.

Super Competition final – Adrian Vella 8.457 (8.92 IN) def. Craig Geddes 9.078 (8.88 IN).

Supercharged Outlaws Final – Toby Austin 6.763 (6.50 DI) def. Doina Day DNS.

Top Sporstman final – Paul Partridge 7.971 (7.90 DI) def. Thomas Leake 7.950 (7.89 DI).


Modified final – Craig Baker 8.556 (8.55 DI) def. Adriana MacCaskell 7.257 (7.21 DI).

Super Sedan final – Michael Little 9.417 (9.35 DI) def. Nathan Watt 9.567 (9.43 DI).

Modified Bike final – Chris Hocking 9.360 (9.45 DI) def. Dale Williams 9.525 (9.68 DI).

Super Street Final – Luke Griffiths 10.449 (10.47 DI) def. Peter Violaris 10.319 (10.37 DI).

Super Gas final – Joe Catanzariti 9.902 def. Tony Polito 9.945.

Junior Dragster final – Ross Lamattina 8.143 (8.09 DI) def. Claire Little 8.101 (8.00 DI) red light.
