Day 3 of the 55th Gulf Western Oil Winternationals, and it is getting serious on track with the conclusion of qualifying for the professional and remaining sportsman sportsman classes, along with the first elimination rounds for other sportsman racers.
The fields in the pro ranks are now set for race day Sunday. In Top Fuel Funny Car, the stage was sent in Q3 with Morice McMillin and Brandon Gosbell running side by side fours – 4.94 to 4.95 respectively – before McMillin blasted a 4.74 in Q4, the quickest Nitro Funny Car run ever in Australia.
The dragsters stunned in Pro Alcohol claiming the top two spots with sub record runs, Tim Clifton’s 5.41 was trumped by Cheyne Phillips’ stunning 5.39.
In Pro Slammer Paul Cannuli raised the bar again to a 5.68 to secure the top slot in qualifying.
The Tremaniac Team kept the rest of the Pro Stock field behind them with Aaron edging out Tyronne in qualifying bragging rights 6.927 to 9.929.
Pro Bike didn’t change at the top with the 7.08 from Luke Crowley yesterday holding up today.
Likewise Zoran Gajic kept the Pro Mod lead with a 5.88.
Qualifying for several sportsman classes was completed.
Early elimination rounds for other sportsman brackets has already produced a truck load of championship defining upsets.
