Mother Nature had the final say on the WA drag racing season, washing out the final event on the calendar after qualifying, the new season will start after a Winter break.
John Zappia punched out a 5.66 with his quickest ever sixty-foot time, and that was with the B-motor. Unfortunately for Zappia and fans, we didn’t get a chance to see a showdown between him and Summer Slam championship points leader Daniel Gregorini in racing because of the wet stuff. Therefore well done to Scratch & Match team for taking the title by 30 points.
The event was also the last for Stuart Moresby who announced his retirement from Top Doorslammer racing after 20 years in the sport.
“It has been an incredible journey filled with excitement, challenges, and triumphs, and we are grateful for all the memories and experiences that we have shared together. From the thrill of the starting line to the rush of the finish, we have poured our hearts and souls into every race, pushing ourselves to the limit and chasing our dreams, ” said Moresby.
“As we close this chapter, we want to extend our gratitude to all the sponsors, crew members, and fans who have supported us over the years. Your contributions have made a significant impact, enabling us to pursue our passion and compete at the highest levels of the sport. Your support has not gone unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful for all that you have done.
“To our fellow competitors, we want to say how much we have enjoyed racing alongside you. Your skill, dedication, and sportsmanship have been an inspiration to us, and we are proud to have been a part of such a talented and respected community.
“To our fans, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your unwavering support and enthusiasm. Your cheers, encouragement, and kind words have been a source of strength and inspiration for us, and we are grateful for every moment that we have shared with you. As we close this chapter, we do so with a sense of gratitude and appreciation for all that we have accomplished. It has been an honour to be a part of such a dynamic and passionate sport, and we look forward to the next chapter with great anticipation.
It was also great to see Matt Abel back on track so quickly after barrel rolling his 57 Chev in the sand trap at the Westernationals.
The Nitro Max cars didn’t see any track time at this even, Tim Stewart in the Thumper Camaro was the series champion. While in Nitro Bike, Benny Stevens’ season of domination saw him take the Nitro Bike championship.
Moreno Gullotto snuck home in his Soarer to edge out a track championship win in Top Comp over Madison Brown’s funny car by just 5 points.
Rob Gaikhorst grabbed the Super Comp track championship and Daniel Natalotto finished well ahead in Comp Bike.
Likewise Kasey McClure owned Supercharged Outlaws in her dragster for the track championship win, as Alby Bakranich did the same in Top Sportsman for the title, and Jeff Acton in Modified.
In Super Sedan, Roger Moorhouse held off Brodie Zappia for the track title in a fight to the end. Simon Garbutt edged out Ian Read by just five points in Modified Bike, and Steph Gullotto made it two track championships for the Gullotto family by winning Super Street. Kevin Boulton knocked off the Outlaw Radial title and finally Seth Jarvis was king of the kids owning the Junior Dragster title by just a few points of Lucas Green.
