Well finally Sydney Dragway was given a break with the weather and round five of the Atura Blacktown Championship Series went into the books as completed after the last two rounds did not see their conclusion.
Top Comp, and All-In 10.5 did not have enough competitors to formulate a completion of eliminations with most racers entered in these brackets residing to testing for the day, and Supercharged Outlaws was not offered at this event.
Highlight of Top Comp was Jeffery Wilson’s 6.08 in his Top Doorslammer Corvette, early numbers potentially showed a five second pass.
Super Comp lost majority of its competitors after qualifying, though according to results a single elimination run between Fred Soleiman’s GTO and George Rehayem’s Mazda6 – in which Rehayem red lit – comprised the final.
The Rapisarda team brought the Wayne Newby and Damien Harris dragsters for a shakedown ahead of their Top End debut at Hidden Valley – though no full passes were made.
American tuner Lee Beard is also here casting a eye over the operation.
In Supercharged Outlaws testing Greg Smith returned with new engine package and carded his first six and double tonne – 6.54 at 211mph.
Ronnie Palumbo will take the Top Sportsman Track Championship lead with a win over defending champ Neil Constantinou who picked off a cherry in the final. Johnny Briscas’ 6.03 from his twin turbo Corvette was the quickest run in the class for the day and a personal best by a bunch – look out fives.
After narrowly missing the Super Sedan Track Championship last season Jim Denaro is setting about rectifying that with a round five win over James Barnes’ Falcon and should see the Cortina racer at the pointy end of the championship table.
Defending Modified champion Tim Nielsen put another win in the books defeating Victorian Jess Turner with a 7.935 on a 7.92 package to Turners 7.442 on a 7.38.
A -0.010 cherry from Robert Simmonds Hayabusa gifted Lorenzo Capogna’s VROD the win in Modified Bike.
The big Chevy truck of Rodney Hanckel ran away with the Super Street win against perennial finalist Stan Nikitaras who broke out by just one thousandth of a second.
Joe Catanzariti bagged a Super Gas win over Tony Polito 9.939 to a 9.966
Dylan Panetta was too eager in the Juniour Dragster final handing the win to Joel Burns.
After Adriana MacCaskell picked up a cool $1000 for a perfect reaction during qualifying, Arron Bessel in his FPV ute went on to take the Street Fighter win over Don Zammit.
Colin Northcott launched his Ducati into the Street Bike winners circle over Stefan Stivala’s V-ROD.
And the battle of HAMBster’s saw Jeff Danglmaier triumph over Gerard ONeill.
