The Speed Adict Clothing Co. NSW Championship Series revved back up at Sydney Dragway after a Winter layoff.
The tough eight round sportsman series is now on the home stretch, with win lights becoming increasingly more important for championship contenders.
Into the racing results, and Boosted Outlaws had enough cars going into the event, but a late withdrawal left reduced the remaining competitors to exhibition runs – John Willard though made the most of the situation. Not content with just holding the Outlaw Anglia records, Willard is in pursuit of the outright World Records for an Anglia which is held by USA’s Chuck Moore at 6.659/207.7mph. Well, Willard cranked out 208.33mph to claim one half of the outright Anglia World Record, and just fell shy of the ET end on another lap, running a personal best (and new Outlaw Anglia record) of 6.672 lifting early.
The two wheel tear-aways were at it again in Extreme Bike, Leonard Azzopardi grabbed the win over Brendan Miglionico in the final 7.17 to a 7.66, but still trails his better half, wife Deanne in the championship points.
In Top Sportsman, Paul Partridge is showing ridiculous performance, his Mustang has featured in every final round of the season, winning the last two, and he added another event win here, defeating Thomas Leake in the final after the Leake Grand Am rolled the beams. On current form, Partridge’s lead in the championship is unlikely to be surpassed even with three rounds to go.
Adriana MacCaskell has continued her impressive run in Modified, still a newcomer to the bracket with her dragster, MacCaskell won her second event of the year over a breaking out George Bukureshliev. Eventhough MacCaskell missed the first event of the season, she is only 60 catchable points off the championship leader Leigh Hartill-Law.
For Modified Bike, and Peter Strudwick is in some rarefied air after a third win for the year in the ultra-competitive two wheel class. Strudwick now has a dominate lead with his V-Rod following a take down of Lorenzo Capogna in the event final. A .004 reaction should of nailed the win for Capogna in the all V-Rod final, who backed his dial-in down to 9.02 for the final, but ultimately the bike picked up its performance leading to a 9.010 breakout in the cooling temperatures.
Two of the Super Sedan heavy hitters met in the final, Joe Zammit took a big holeshot in his VL Commodore to the stripe for the win against a breaking out Jim Denaro. The pair along with a large number of other racers are still the hunt for the overall championship being lead by Sean Maher who ended his campaign in the semi final at this event.
Chris Creech took the easiest of wins in Super Street when Adam Bowers hopped his Commodore through the beams when staging. Championship-wise and the Matosevic brothers own the top two slots with a break over the chasers.
Super Gas pulled a field together for the first time this season with six entries. Vince Panetta gave away any chance of a finals win by going in deep with his Torana – deep staging is forbidden in Super Gas- which let Joe Catanzariti run his new Firebird out the back door with a 9.892 uncontested.
Charlotte Liefting wrapped up the win in Junior Dragster over Max Perri. The championship is being fought hard between Josh Bertenshaw and Alex Rottenbury who are tied of at the top with the rest of the pack close behind.
In Street Fighter, Don Zammit exerted his dominance again with his third event win of the season. Zammit’s VT Commodore beat Glen Garlick to the stripe in the final, and increased his lead over rest of the field to 60 points.
Finally in Street Bike, Robert Gielb made it a debut to remember, winning the bracket aboard his Kawasaki at his first ever NSW Championship event. Tristan Anderson was runner up for the second time this season with his sweet Royal Enfield, and it keeps him in the hunt for the overall track championship behind Stefan Stivala.
The next round of the Speed Adict Clothing Co. NSW Championship Series is Sep 17.
