A last ditch thrash will see Rob Taylor’s first appearance at race track since his devastating Winternationals fire a couple years ago, and it will be with his absolutely stunning C7 Corvette doorslammer.
Taylor said he is looking forward to getting back into racing following at fire at Willowbank Raceway that destroyed Camaro Pro Slammer and caused serious injury. Now focused racing again, his initial plans were to have his new replacement 69 Camaro Top Doorslammer ready for the event, however with time beating him on finishing that doorslammer, he has turned to option B.
“My new 1969 Camaro is almost finished, but I will be spending a week with Mark Savage in Sydney tuning and setting up the new car in November to early December,” said Taylor.
“So we decided to turn to the C7 with the the Bend’s inaugural meeting, we still wanted to attend it because it’s a special event.”
Taylor wanted to compete in Top Doorlsammer with the C7 Corvette, but the legality of the aerodynamic body shape was still in question.
“To say that we’ve had challenges is an understatement, putting a car together in a week and a half is no big deal,” said Taylor. “But obviously trying to get the card to fit into Doorslammer was. The Top Doorslammer Association were amazing with getting the vote done quickly. Some other areas have unfortunately not been as fast, but we are endeavouring to work with them to get this car to Tailem Bend, and to race it in Top Doorslammer trim.”
The car has been teched under both sanctions and ready for Taylor to unleash, whether it will be in competition or not, fans will be fortunate enough still to see The Mad Professor makes some laps.
“Andy Lopez (NDRC Promoter) has been amazing supporting us, and trying to help us where we can to get to this event,” said Taylor. “So at very least we will be doing some testing and exhibition passes if we cannot get the final tick of approval for the C7 Corvette.”
The Spring Nationals this weekend at Dragway At The Bend will feature the first round of the NDRC Top Doorslammer Championship.
