Ron Atholwood has returned to the track in a Nitro Funny Car almost 20 years since his last nitro blast.
Atholwood’s one of the many racers for whom nitro dreams have been resurrected under the inspiration of the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car scene.
The Black Assassin Corvette carries a very nostalgic look to it but the performance has been strong, thanks to the team’s talents and some input from regular Australian visitor, NHRA Funny Car driver Gary Densham.
“We only got one test run on the 9th July, the car is making a lot of power thanks to a Gary Densham tune up,” Ron said. “It left the line hard with the wheels eight inches in the air and ran towards the centre line so I had to lift and get back on it and again it went to the centre line forcing me to abort the run.
“We pulled the motor down and everything looked perfect will be out testing again soon.”
