The South Australian Development Assessment Commission (DAC) has approved the multi-million dollar motorsport development in Tailem Bend SA.
In 2013 the site of some 680 hectares was identified in a report to the State Government, as the preferred site for a major motorsport facility in South Australia. It was purchased by Peregrine in early 2014 and was immediately rezoned to ensure the site was consistent for a multi-use motor sport park.
In the last twelve months, significant resources and effort has been spent consulting with key stakeholders and master planning the development.
The developer Peregrine Corporation, South Australia’s largest private company, has an enviable track record in delivering major developments of the highest standard.
Dr Sam Shahin, director of Peregrine and the main driver behind the project, says this state has been starved of a world class motorsport facility for many years. “Rigorous planning and design work has occurred over the last 12 months to create what will be a world class facility,” said Shahin.
“It is fantastic to now receive development approval from DAC and reach this important milestone in the project”.
The facility will present the best that any motor sport complex can offer in the country. The multi-purpose venue will provide first class motor racing circuits, a new drag strip facility, a specially designed drift circuit, go kart circuits, rally tracks including rally cross, and a 4X4 adventure park. The complex will be serviced by a hotel, caravan park, camping grounds and a major OTR fuel and convenience service centre.
The news comes on the back of the announcement that the Federal Government will invest $7.5 million into the venue as well.
Construction is expected to start later this year with a completion date anticipated for 2017.
