Scorcher to make last Aussie appearance

Ash Marshall’s “Scorcher” AA/FD will make its last public appearance in Australia at the Willowbank Winternationals Re-run to be held on 15th-17th July.

Scorcher is firmly cemented in history as the car that carried the first Australian to 200mph at Castlereagh International Dragway on 1st February 1969.

Scorcher made its debut after its ground up rebuild at the 2008 March Meet at the fabled Famoso Raceway, Bakersfield USA. Aussie Nostalgia enthusiasts Dennis Young and George Bukureshliev campaigned the car in the USA before shipping it home to Sydney in April 2010.

Scorcher helped bring a taste of the US Nostalgia scene to Australia by participating in the first local nitro cacklefest at the 2010 Nitro Champs along with Graeme and Wendy Cowin’s “Psycho III” AAFA, Ross Preen’s “Banshee” AAFD and AA/Dave Armstrong’s Sandman AAFD.

Scorcher and Banshee also created history by carrying out the first Australian push starts in decades at Sydney Dragway on 4th August 2010.

Scorcher will be on display at Willowbank Raceways Winternationals Re-run along with the newly recreated Courtesy Chevrolet blown gas dragster of Bob Keith and Lex Swayn. Both cars will be firing up over the weekend bringing a different dimension to Australia’s biggest drag race.

Dennis and George would like to thank the following people for supporting Scorchers Aussie Tour, Peter Leahy (Peter Leahy Custom Imports), John Henman, Ray Treasure (Sydney Dragway), Greg Shultz (ANDRA), Steve Bettes (Willowbank Raceway), Richard Botica, Dave Armstrong, Tony Wilson, Phil Tucker, Greg Morris, Paul Reneke, Preen Family and Steve Thomas (Visual Velocity Photography).
