Victorian ANDRA Pro Stock driver Chris Soldatos has returned from Western Australia with a runner up finish at the recent 42nd annual Westernationals at Perth Motorplex.
After qualifying 6th with a 7.10 second pass, the team faced a monster first round matchup with young gun Shane Tucker. Soldatos outran Tucker with a 7.13 and then went on to defeat John Galea and Jason Grima to set up a final round matchup against Queenslander Wayne Daley. A tricky race track and worsening air conditions made it a tough final for the 400 cubic inch naturally aspirated cars, Soldatos’ 7.16 was no match for Daleys 7.11.
“After qualifying on Saturday we really didn’t know where we were at with the car” Soldatos said. “We had a bunch of things go wrong for us and had no solid data for race day so to make it into the final was a great result”.
The event wasn’t without controversy though. The semi final matchup against Jason Grima had to be re-run after Grima failed to stage before the race started and Soldatos was awarded the win. After a protest the race was re-run with Soldatos taking the win, however the extra run meant the team had to work hard to get the car prepared for the final.
The next round of the ANDRA Pro Stock Championship is at Sydney Dragway, May 3-5.
