The Lamattina Top Fuel Racing team took a fresh look for both cars into the opening round of the Burson Auto Parts Top Fuel Championship at Sydney Dragway.
The championship-winning team also introduced new driver Shane Olive into Top Fuel racing with Shane’s own car sporting an amazing new Burson Auto Parts livery.
Both drivers acquitted themselves well to the new structure recording near identical 3.88 and 3.89-second 1000-foot passes for Phil Lamattina and Shane Olive respectively.
That 3.88 second pass in the final round for Lamattina netted him the third-place trophy and a smile to start the season alongside his new teammate.
Lamattina exclaimed, “It has been a real pleasure to be back racing at Sydney Dragway.”
“I would like to give a massive thank you to Andy Lopez, Nathan Prendergast and Sydney Dragway for putting on a fantastic event.
“To all the fans and racers, the weather was trying on Friday but overall, the event was a great success. Finally, I could not do it without my crew and my sponsors, especially FUCHS Lubricants for your constant support.”
Just like team boss Lamattina, Olive was happy to get through round one with a fast car and some great data.
“This is as good as it gets!” smiled the Sydney local.
“To be driving a Top Fuel Dragster and being a part of the Burson Auto Parts team is still sinking in.
“Add to all that, having this opener at my local track and as my first event in the Burson Auto Parts Top Fuel Championship, it couldn’t have felt any better.
“Massive thanks to my boss and teammate, Phil Lamattina as well as my entire crew. To the guys and girls at Burson Auto Parts who have put their faith in me, this is only the start, we are going to get some gold for that trophy cabinet!”
The smallest but perhaps mightiest member of the LTFR crew, Ross Lamattina took his Junior Dragster to an opening round win of the new Top Fuel series!
