Square eyes could square up season.

Six-times Australian Top Doorslammer champion Victor Bray and two-times champion son Ben have been spending as much time in front of a computer monitor as on the spanners in the lead up to the Nitro Champs, as the team searches for the answer to making their two Sidchrome cars click this weekend.

The increasing pace of Top Doorslammer, culminating in the category’s first all 5sec field in March, has sent the Brays back to the data.

Ben said nothing short of perfection was needed to reach the winner’s circle.

“It would be great to run a time lower than the 5.90sec we ran at the last event in Sydney, but that’s not entirely our goal for the weekend,” he explained.

“Dad has been spending lots of time in front of the computer, laying some of my good runs over the top of each other, looking at weather forecasts and so on.

“There are so many facets to making these cars run fast and to keep making them better, it’s actually really exciting as it looks like we are heading back to the top of our game.

“You can’t get where we are without having done a lot of things right and our team is fired up and ready to go.”

Victor meanwhile is eyeing off the points position his son holds.

“I am currently seventh in the championship only 30 points behind Ben in fifth and Mark Belleri another 13 points ahead in fourth so if I can get a good run and the couple of young bucks in front of me slip up it is not out of the question that I could come away from Sydney in fourth place,” he said.
