A few teams took to Sydney Dragway ahead of Friday’s official testing for Santo’s Summer Thunder this Saturday, January 20, in the professional classes, and with the weather forecast to be on the very hot side, the track time may prove invaluable.
With track temps peaking in the 150F range there were no serious numbers run with tyre shake a real hindrance.
There was no shortage of international talent on deck for teams either.
Scott Maclean suffered some of the most violent shake seen which caused significant damage to the rear of the Monaro keeping the welders busy for most of yesterday.
The Paul Mouhayet driven Moits Racing Mustang had no luck finding tune for the conditions.
Mark Belleri took a couple of stabs at the track yesterday as well.
With the flying Finn Jaska Salakari still in town assisting Mark Drew with the new fuel set up on his V-twin, conditions hampered full track passes.
Michael Dwinger is aiming to license his nitrous sucking Top Bike and a few solid mid seven passes have the team going in the right direction as Dwinger still feels out the new bike.
Adam Layton took a shot at the track late last night with Mark Drew at Bike Night.
Out of the professional classes and long time Sydney Pro Street racer Greg “Mauler” Tsakiridis has taken ownership of the Moits world record breaking Mustang turn key.
Tsakiridis did an outstanding job piloting a totally different animal compared to his nitrous V8 RX3 he is used too.
With the car dialled down for the conditions, the Pro Extreme Mustang still punched out sub 1 second sixties and carded a 6.0 at only 230 odd MPH on a track pushing the needle to 150F.
World famous DJ Carl Cox was also in the house with his monster single turbo Capri.
With expert tuning by Frank Marchese from Dandy Engines, the Pro Radial machine marched to a string of 7.0s the quickest at 7.04 all on a baking hot track with radial tyres – look out when it gets cooler.
