Two-time ANDRA Super Gas Champion Matt Forbes is set to take on the best drag racing competitors in the world when he makes his American debut in October.
Forbes said he’s thrilled to get the opportunity to race the category in America, and looks forward to the challenge.
“It all came about 12 months ago when I was in Pomona, California and contacts at my sponsors Lucas Oil and Sunset Performance Engines asked if I wanted to compete with some of the best racers in the world,” Forbes said.
“It’s been a year long process to get my NHRA license, but I’m all set to go and can’t wait to get over for two events in October.
“It will be really tough competition. They race a lot more often than we do in Australia, so I’m going to have my work cut out for me.”
Forbes will race a Don Davis built Corvette Roadster, similar to his Australian title winning Lucas Oil Roadster.
He will make his debut at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Oklahoma from 9-11 October in a Lucas Oil Divisional Series event, facing the region’s most competitive drivers.
Forbes will then make the leap to the big time, taking part in the Dallas Nationals at Texas Motorplex the following week, racing against America’s top Super Gas racers.
“To have the chance to race against the fiercest Super Gas competitors in the world is an honour, and I can’t thank the car owners Buddy and Karen Wood enough.”
“I’ve got high expectations, and I hope to progress through a few rounds, but most of all I just want to have fun and make the most of the experience,” he said.
