The Southern Super Gas Series heads to Ballarat this Sunday March 4 for the third round of the series. This is another round robin event with the event winner receiving a bonus package of Lucas Oil products.
After some very tight Super Gas racing at Round 2 of the Southern Super Gas series held at Fuchs South Coast Raceway Slamfest, Ballarat’s Darrel Mathieson driving Andrew Food’s Monaro has increased his lead in the series from event runner-up Colin Griffin.
One of the unique features of the Southern Super Gas Series is qualifying points being based on the best average ET of the four sessions rather than the more accepted top qualifier. Portland’s Mathew Hoggan topped the qualifying with an average 6.303 on the 1/8th mile index of 6.30. Darrel Mathieson (6.310) and Bruno Romeo (6.325) rounded out the top three.
Adelaide’s Bruno Romeo and Melbourne’s Colin Griffin then proceeded to win all three of their round robin races before Bruno went on to win the final with a 6.345 to a breaking out Colin (6.207).
