Testing continued today for those over-powered under-tyred APSA Pro Street cars ahead of this weekends shootout.
The track was a little tricky early on but came around later in the day and performances picked up likewise, the Moits Outlaw 10.5 Mustang was again the quickest with a 6.17 repeating yesterday’s performance.
Sam Fenech is determined to take it to the turbo boys in Outlaw 10.5, a 6.37 has them leading the black belt brigade.
Jeremy Callaghan mustered a 6.70 best, the team a little frustrated with the tricky lane today.
Mick Duggan tested for the first time in the right lane and discovered he could not see the tree, Duggan was content to continue practicing launches as he comes to grips with driving so much brutal horsepower.
Outlaw 10.5 testing continued with Nikki Hepburn, the Gemini was still be temperamental but did punch out a wheels up 7.44.
Moving into Pro Street Blown cars, Steve Athans’ Mustang still fell short of that six second pass with a 7.13 best pass of the day.
Glen Forster is still taking small steps up with the ex Dom Luppino Mustang (it is not a new car as mentioned in the day one report).
It was not the smoothest start of the day for Tomi Raikko, the turbo small block Torana all but turning turtle on its first run. Raikko saved it, kept the panels straight and continued the hunt for a stable set up the rest of the day.
In the Pro Street Unblown ranks Daniel Sharban and his 600 odd cubes of aspirated Ford will be the one to beat after clocking a 7.76.
The radial wars picked up with with Perry Bullivant testing his new Snickers bar. There was not much success in testing today, but be sure he will be at the pointy end of the field by Saturday.
Joe Gauci driving Dandy Engines’ XW with the radial shoes slammed down a 7.86 at 183mph on its first full pass. Then the run got real interesting when the twin chutes ripped the entire chute mount off the back of the XW and Gauci took a trip into the catch net.
Dion Amato was again on the precipice of a seven second ticket with a 8.02 at 175mph from the six banger.
Mazsport rocked up testing a freshly imported RX7 and carded a easy 9.10 on a soft full pass.
The new blown altered was back out, Steve Stanic was again in the seat for owner Rob Coote and ran a 6.78 then a 6.58 with little effort.
And the special treat today was the inhaling of nitro courtesy of Phil Lamattina. The team took four shots at the track, all ending with shake and smoke not far past 60 feet.
We have video highlights from the day by Madman Productions so “crank it up”.
Stay tuned now for Friday’s APSA testing, the final shot for teams gearing up for the shootout.
