History has been made at the Riverbend Nationals with the packed Dragway at The Bend crowd witnessing the quickest and fastest ever Top Fuel pass in Australian history during qualifying today ahead of Sunday’s racing for the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC).

In a short statement to the PremiAir Racing Facebook page, Peter Xiberras has announced that, due to a combination of business and personal reasons, he will not be racing the Premiair Hire Top Fuel Dragster at events for the remainder of the current NDRC season.

After nearly eight months out of the seat of his 11,000hp, 500+kph Top Fuel Dragster, Phil Lamattina made his much-anticipated return to Top Fuel at the 54th annual Westernationals – round three of the NDRC Top Fuel Championship chase.

The Lamattina Top Fuel Racing (LTFR) team made their return at the 54th Westernationals at Perth Motorplex, delivering awesome performances and gaining valuable data as they battled some of the best in the sport.

One year ago, Australian Top Fuel Champion Damien Harris narrowly avoided a complete catastrophe when a mechanical failure on his Atlantic Oils Rapisarda Autosport International Top Fuel Dragster caused a qualifying accident ending his Westernationals campaign and nearly derailing his championship. This weekend, Harris at the RAI team will return to the Perth Motorplex for Round 3 of the NDRC Australian Top Fuel Championship at the 54th annual Westernationals seeking to redeem the disaster of last season with same chassis involved in that crash.

Kyle Putland and his fellow Top Fuel pilots will bring a 66,000hp nitro-burning show to the Perth Motorplex this weekend, with round 3 of the NDRC Top Fuel Championship to headline the 54th annual Westernationals across March 1 and 2.
