A remarkable 17-car field is locked and loaded for the second last-round of the 2025 NDRC Australian Top Doorslammer Championship at Willowbank Raceway for the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals.
In recognition of Dennis Syrmis’s enormous contribution to the sport of drag racing in Australia, the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC) is pleased to announce that the Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship top national point scorer will be recognised with the Dennis Syrmis Award.
While rain tried to upset the Winternationals lead in Winter Warmups once again, the hard-working Willowbank track team brought the track in once the precipitation had subsided for a taste of what’s to come over a mammoth 4-days this week.

Fifty-one Junior Dragsters were on-track at the National Drag Racing Championship’s recent Gulf Western Oil Nitro Champs, and with another big field expected for the upcoming NDRC Gulf Western Oil Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway (June 5-8), there is absolutely no doubt that the future of Australian drag racing is looking exceptionally strong.
It was twenty years ago this September that John Zappia stormed into the record books with the first-ever five-second Doorslammer pass on Australian soil — a 5.967 at Sydney Dragway that lit the fuse on a new era. Fast forward to the 2025 Nitro Champs, and Zappia was once again strapping into the Dananni Hotshots/Fuchs Monaro, ready to add another chapter.
Lisa Gregorini has continued her strong year in the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship following a runner-up result at the Nitro Champs.
