Team Bray Racing has headed off from its Kallangur base this morning, bound for the Perth Motorplex’sWesternationals (1 and 2 March 2013).
Before they get there however, the TBR train will make a scheduled stop at Portland’s South Coast Raceway in Victoria for round two of the 2013 Slamfest Series.
Now entering its fourth year, the Slamfest Series sees Top Doorslammer racers from around the country competing across the eighth-mile distance at Australia’s regional tracks.
Once in Portland, the father and son team of Victor and Ben Bray will be joined by a full field of Top Doorslammer competitors including Sean Mifsud, Grant O’Rourke, Russ Pavey, Marcus Chambers, Peter Kapiris, John Zappia and Pat Carbone.
“Once again heading into round two of the Slamfest Series you have the top three in the ANDRA (Australian National Drag Racing Association) Top Doorslammer title chase fronting up for some exciting eighth mile action at one of Australia’s great regional tracks,” said Victor Bray.
“Kapiris is a local hero around Portland, so he is sure to be bringing everything to the table as he chases a home town win, while the rest of us will be certainly doing everything we can to prevent him from doing so.
“As far as our preparation, we had a good set-up running at our last outing at Heathcote where I made it to the semi-finals so I have abstained from messing with that too much – much to my crew’s delight!”
Ben Bray will be looking to improve on his round one results while getting the ‘tyre shake’ demons he has been recently experiencing off his back.
“We have been spending a lot of time in the workshop working on the rear end of the car since Heathcote trying to solve the tyre shake issue which has plagued me the last few rounds,” said Ben Bray.
“With the new engine and blower combination we are making lots of power, but we are having issues transferring that extra power to the track.
“Hopefully by the time we hit the eighth mile in Portland we will have a solution and be ready to put down some powerful passes for the fans before we head on over to Perth for round three of the ANDRA title chase.”
Victor plays a key part in organising the Series with 2012 Series and 2013 first round winner Kapiris.
“This weekend should have been round three of the ANDRA professional championship at Calder Park Raceway but with the track’s change of ownership it was unfortunately cancelled,” said Victor Bray.
“We were happy to fill the gap with a Slamfest round when the news broke late last year, and things are shaping up for a cracker of a weekend.”
The 2013 Slamfest Series will be held over four rounds in 2013, starting with this weekend (19 January) at Heathcote Park Raceway before taking in Portland’s South Coast Raceway (16 February) and Gladstone’s Benaraby Raceway (29 June) before the final round in Mackay (13 July 2013). This weekend’s on-track action will commence from 11.00am on Saturday 16 February, for more information, please visit www.slamfest.com.au
