Team Bray Racing’s Ben Bray is hoping to back-up his Gulf Western Oil Winternationals Factory Xtreme success of earlier this year with another victory in the bracket at the prestigious Honeywell Garrett Brisbane Jamboree, presented by Link ECU and Tuners Edge.
What is Australia’s premier sport compact drag racing and car culture event will be held at TBR’s home track of Willowbank Raceway this weekend (August 25 and 26).
At the Sydney running of the Jamboree concept in March, Ben took his Gulf Western Oil Toyota Solara all the way to the final for a runners-up result. With further development and the Winters win under their belts since then, TBR is feeling confident of another strong result this weekend.
“We have raced at a few events in the Gulf Western Oil Toyota Solara since the Sydney Jamboree and we have been making some really great progress in the car’s development, as evidenced by our win at the Winters which was a really proud moment,” Ben explained.
“We would like to run into the low ‘six second’ range at the Brisbane Jamboree, and of course we want to chase another FX win!
“We will be doing some testing this week in the lead-up to the event, focusing on the start line as well as our 60 foot and 330 foot times.
“Our workshop team-mate Rod Harvey will be there as well in his new FX car during both testing and the event – he has never beaten me in the Solara so you can be sure there will be some good-natured rivalry playing out between our two entries this weekend,” Ben laughed.
Ben explains that it is not only the on-track action that appeals to TBR at the Brisbane Jamboree.
“This event really is something special for the sport compact drag racing scene and it is hotly anticipated every year,” Ben said.
“It draws racers from not only all over the country but internationally as well from the United States, Japan, Puerto Rico and of course New Zealand; and it is no surprise that it does as the show is just unbelievable.
“There is plenty of off-track entertainment to match the on-track offering too, so there is no shortage of things to see and do over the two days. We can’t wait to get in amongst it all this weekend.”
