The Tamworth Drag Racing Association has signed a five-year agreement to continue with ANDRA as its sanctioning body into the future.

The announcement comes ahead of a number of exciting events at TDRA’s Gunnedah Airport venue in the coming months.

“We have been with ANDRA for a long, long time, not only in support of our racing at Gunnedah where we have been racing for 25 years, but also for many events prior,” TDRA President, Bill Ausling, said.

“The ANDRA team have always been a great support over the years and in particular over the last 12 months they have been fantastic in helping us to move through the challenges of COVID-19 with online entering and other assistance to make sure we could keep things flowing.

“We were very fortunate last year to run three of our four events as scheduled. The assistance of ANDRA staff helped us greatly to navigate our way through the COVID-safe practices put in place.”

This weekend, the TDRA will host its Weeks of Speed meeting at Gunnedah Airport (March 6 and 7) and on the following Thursday (11 March) it hosts a round of the Drag-ens Hot Rod Society three-day 2021 Drag Safari for pre-49 hot rods and chrome bumper cars.

“Entries are open for both of these events and we are certainly very excited to see what our competitors have in store for what should be some great days of racing,” Bill said.

“Plans are also well advanced for our other upcoming events for this year, with event dates in place for May 8 and 9, August 7 and 8, and October 30 and 31.”

These events aren’t the only thing TDRA is working on either.

“We continue to work hard on plans for a permanent drag strip in Tamworth as part of a planned complex that will include both a circuit racing track and a drag racing track,” Bill explained.

“We have the land and a DA in place from the Council which has been 20 years in progress and is now a reality, which is very exciting. So now we are working hard on finding the funding possible to make it all a reality.”
