It’s a different track, a different challenge, but Team Bray Racing heads into Round Four of the 2012 ANDRA Pro Series looking to capitalise on their combination from Perth as they return to Sydney Dragway.
At the last ANDRA round the Father and Son duo decided to use a combination of gear ratios and clutch settings that had been on the to do list for a while. Although it did not deliver 5.80’s it has given the team a good base line that they are looking to capitalise on this week end.
“Top Doorslammer has become the most competitive group 1 ANDRA bracket. You make one mistake and you don’t make the show. Every race, there is another full field of good cars not in there and a couple of times it’s been us,” said Victor Bray driver of the Sidchrome 1957 Chevy.
“I will tell you how tuff this bracket is just look at my old mate Peter Kapiris, former series champion and world record holder, heading into the last meeting over in Perth he was leading the championship by 70 points, he out qualified me with a 5.80, comes elimination day Peter and I met in the 1st round, Peter had a problem, I had a good run and went on to the semi-finals, I moved from 10th to 6th and John Zappia is now leading the championship.”
Ben Bray, Sidchrome Monaro driver continued, “What can I say 16 Top Doorslammers fighting for 1 of the 8 spots in Sunday’s eliminations. That is an event in itself. Dad has said quite a few times lately that back in 1995 when he was a big part of getting Top Doorslammer off the ground as a bracket that this is what he hoped it would become.”
“The last time we raced at Sydney Dragway at this time of the year one thing I do remember about it was that the track had lots of grip and the weather was prefect so fingers crossed it will be the same again. 16 Top Doorslammers, my adrenalin is already starting to speed up just thinking about it. I just need to make sure I am one of the top 8 at the end of Saturday.”
Including this week end there is 3 rounds left in the Championship and you can bet your bottom dollar that Team Bray will be doing their best to move up the championship ladder before the season ends.
