Team Bray head back to Townsville for the last Hurrah

Fresh from their on track entertainment duties at the recent Townsville Sucrogen 400 V8 Supercar round, Victor and Ben Bray will head back to Townsville this weekend for the 2012 Trevor Mobbs Memorial Slamfest round.

The event will thrill what is expected to a huge crowd at the popular strip who will be keen to see Group One racing at its best. The field includes 3 other A.N.D.R.A. pro series regulars in Maurice Fabietti, Peter Kapiris and Gary Phillips, Victor and Ben will have to be on their game from the 1st qualifying session if they are to end up squaring off at the tree against each other in the final.

“Unfortunately this will be our last race at this venue. Urban sprawl has caught up with the track. This track was a World War II US airstrip until the Mobbs family got hold of it in the mid 70’s;” said Victor Bray

“Trevor Mobbs was a real forward thinking man and got drag racing going in the north of Queensland. This event will no doubt be the biggest ever at this track and I am very happy that it is named after Trevor, it is just a shame it will probably be one of the last.”

With both Victor’s ’57 Chevy and Ben’s Monaro CV8Z currently getting faster every time they hit the track. They both run very consistent at the recent Winternationals, Victor 6.007 @235.15 and Ben 5.877 @241mph. This weekend the two Sidchrome slammers should lay down some respectable numbers on the Townsville strip.

“I am really looking forward to this. I have never raced my Top Doorslammer in Townsville. I have listened to so many of Dad’s story’s when back in the Wild Bunch days they used to do a circuit taking in Gladstone, Mackay and Townsville, so I feel like I have been down the track a 100 times;” said Ben Bray

“We have got a lot of Facebook fans in northern Queensland so I hope they all get off their computers and are track side on Saturday because  we’re planning to put on a big show.”

If you would like to catch up with Ben and Victor before the Slamfest event, the Team Bray road show will be at Tony Ireland Russco, 54 Duckworth St, Garbutt between 10am and 1pm on Friday.
