The Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway was good event that could have been great for ANDRA Top Alcohol competitor Wayne Price, as his team continues to develop into the ‘dark horse’ of the ANDRA Top Alcohol bracket.
The Price Motorsports team was justifiably pleased with improve performance and consistency for their 3500hp funny car.
“It was a good event for us,” commented team driver and boss, Wayne Price.
“On our first qualifier, we undertook our normal warm up procedure and everything seemed to be fine but when we needed to fire the car to start the run, a faulty crank trigger meant it wouldn’t come to life.”
However, the second qualifier was different story.
“Our second pass was pretty conservative 5.93-second run at 235mph but we knew we could go quicker again.
“We had to get off of the bump spot (the last place in the field), so we left the line at 6800rpm but my visor was fogging up and the lack of vision meant we had a light touch with the wall at the finish line,” smiled Price.
“The real pity though was that our 5.68-second pass at 244 mph didn’t count.
The result meant that Price faced top qualifier and multi-championship winning Top Alcohol star, Gary Phillips in the first round.
“We had to be on our game left the line and I managed to cut a good .09 reaction time and put down a clean pass, with a 5.81 at 244mph, to take the win.
The second round saw Price leave the line too early, which meant the team missed out on its first final round appearance, however Price was upbeat with the result.
“We now have tune up that we believe can get us into the low 5.60 bracket and at the next round, that’s exactly what we plan to do.
