Renmark (SA) racer Dale Tucker will be doing all he can to continue what has been a highly successful NDRC season to date at his home track’s Ken Scroop Memorial event this weekend.
Tucker is leading the Supercharged Outlaws standings for the Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship Western Conference, which will host its latest round at Mildura’s Sunset Strip this weekend (March 9 and 10).
“We haven’t contested a championship before, but with recent good form I made the decision to have a real go this year,” Tucker said.
“We have won quite a few major events, but to win a championship would be a great accomplishment.
“The Ken Scroop Memorial event is the last opportunity to reach the 300 points cap before the Western Conference Grand Final, so there will be a lot to play for.
“And with Mildura being our home track, I feel very comfortable racing there.”
While of course important for his title aspirations, a win at the Ken Scroop Memorial would also have an extra special meaning for the 49 year old engine machinist and mechanic who has been racing for 16 years across Super Street, Super Sedan and Supercharged Outlaws.
“We have our eyes on another finals appearance and another event win this weekend, and of course a win is important and would put us in a great position for the grand final, but with Ken Scroop being a long-time resident of our home town of Renmark, I would particularly be honoured to win this event,” he said.
While Tucker leads the Western Conference points for Supercharged Outlaws on 260 points, he has plenty of great racers nipping at his heels.
Doina Day is only 30 points adrift in second place on 230 points, followed by Shane Baxter (220 points), Shaun Kerkman (200 points), Mark Hunt (190 points) and Bob Sherry (180 points).
“Our season so far has gone reasonably well apart from our first round loss at Portland in January due to the car being unstable on the track,” Tucker says.
“You know what they say – you lift, you lose!
“You can rest assured we won’t be lifting this weekend,” he grinned, while thanking Riverland Country Kitchen, Autopro Renmark, Keller Grain, and his family and crew for their support.
