Mildura’s Atlantic Oils Sunset Strip has come alive Friday evening with day one of the Twilight Nationals, which marks round six of the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship.

Three of four qualifying sessions for the February 14-15 race for prestigious ANDRA Christmas Trees are now complete, with the following racers currently leading the way for their respective brackets: Edge Mallis (Lectron Australia Competition Bike), Davydd Estcourt (Huntsman Racing Supercharged Outlaws), Vlado Turic (Top Sportsman Competitors Top Sportsman), Kenny Stewart (Gallagher Modified), Tony Tedesco (Super Sedan Competitors Super Sedan), Dean Jamieson (Ballistic Performance Parts Modified Bike), Dean Doolan (Goodyear Racing Super Street), Graeme Spencer (the South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Gas), Savanna Condello (Langtree’s Machinery Services Junior Dragster). The local non-championship Street Car bracket is also on-track this weekend, with Lisa Trezise currently claiming the quickest time of the day.

The final battles to see who will claim the Top Qualifier Medallions presented by New Gen Business Park will be held Saturday afternoon from 2.30pm. Racing will then commence for all brackets from 5.30pm, with the finals scheduled to be held at 9.00pm.

In Super Street, local racer Dean Doolan tops the time sheets so far after an unproblematic day.

“It has been a good day with no problems at all,” Doolan said.

“I haven’t changed anything from each run; I am happy with how things are going so far.

“Tomorrow we will be trying to do what we did today, perhaps try and cut a better light, and see what happens,” he concluded, while thanking his son and tuner, Dusty, and his sponsor, Mildura Forklifts.

Fourteen-year-old Savanna Condello is hoping her performance today in Langtree’s Machinery Services Junior Dragster will translate into a challenge for her first ANDRA tree trophy tomorrow.

“It has been an amazing day, and my car has been performing phenomenally as always,” Condello said.

“The tree here is different to what I am used to at my home track (Sydney), but I have adjusted to it now, and my times were just as consistent as they have been for my last few meetings and I am absolutely proud of that.

“I am feeling amazing heading into tomorrow, my car has the ability to go far and I obviously can take that, so hopefully my car performs as well tomorrow as it did today and we will see what we can do from there.

“To get a win would mean the world to me, especially as it is an ANDRA Christmas Tree weekend, I haven’t got an ANDRA tree yet and that is the whole reason I am here!

“I would like to thank my sponsor Fineline Motorsports, my brother Zayne for helping me along the way and giving me tips on how to get better, and my family – especially my grandad for doing what he does for us and helping us get through everything.”
