It is officially being announced that the NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car Team, KonRodz Racing, has reached a two-race deal with veteran ANDRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver John Cannuli.
Cannuli who is currently third in the ANDRA national Top Alcohol point’s standings will drive for KonRodz at the Vegas and Pomona NHRA rounds. KonRodz Racing’s full time driver Sean Bellemeur had previously agreed to drive his families funny car for the rounds so Cannuli will fill in.
“I got to sit down with Spiro and Stefan Kontos in Indy and we discussed the possibilities, it has been a dream of mine to compete in the United States and I am very confident in the operation Spiro has put together with Stefan,” said Cannuli.
“I look forward to representing Australia as I make my American debut with KonRodzand and hope to contend for round wins, they have a great team leader in Randy Anderson and I am confident we can do well.”
Team owner Spiro Kontos first met John through his son Stefan in Indianapolis.
“We immediately hit it off and have since developed a great relationship on both business and personal levels. John had expressed interest in racing in the US and we are lucky enough to have a vacant seat for the last two national events of the year,” said team owner Kontos.
“John has had great success in Australia this year, currently sitting third in points, so I am very confident in his driving ability. We’re working through a bad luck streak as of recent however our team has now relocated to Glendale, Arizona and now that the car is constantly being worked on.
“I am confident that we can represent Australia well with John and go some rounds to conclude the season. I am excited to see what the future holds and we may see John driving at more NHRA races in 2015.
