Two Street Machine Drag Week contenders badly damaged in road accidents

Inattentive drivers (from the public that is, not the owners) have caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to two Street Machine Drag Week contenders.

As the series headed from Calder Park to Heathcote yesterday, the sad news came that Justin and Josh Ede’s Ford GT (above, image by Pro Race Engines/Facebook) and Steve Reimann’s Dart (image by Scott Taylor/Facebook) had both been involved in smashes while travelling between rounds.

From Pro Race Engines in regards to the Edes:
“The boys had an awesome first day at Calder for Drag Week running 11.0 @ 122 mph. Unfortunately tragedy struck when they were on their way to Seymour last night. They pulled over on the side of the road to check their trailer and were hit by some dickhead doing over 100kmh. Glad to say the dickhead got caught after a police search with the chopper and the dog squad when he did a runner after the hit. The boys are devastated and my heart goes out to them. Next year they’ll be back, better than ever! Thanks for your continued support Justin and Josh.”

Bubba Medlyn led after day one of Drag Week with an 8.01 from his Holden VH Commodore. We’ll have some pics soon from opening day but in the meantime stay tuned to www.streetmachine.com.au for updates.
