After a sunny showing at Nitro Up North last weekend, Team Bray Racing is getting ready for the second stop of their ‘northern swing’ with this weekend’s Desert Nationals at Alice Springs Inland Dragway (July 21/22).
Following Darwin’s event across July 13-14, the team from Brisbane in South East Queensland has been soaking up the sights and sounds of The Territory over the past week but is now ready to get down to business with their three Top Doorslammers for Victor Bray, Ben Bray and Frankie Taylor.
“The weather was beautiful in Darwin – sunny and 32 degrees each day under clear skies, it was just wonderful,” TBR team principal and driver, Victor Bray, said.
“The track was a bit tricky on day one as we found it hard to hook-up off the line, but Ben ran a best of 5.76 seconds and took two round wins over the weekend before red-lighting in the final, while I was able to go quicker and quicker with each pass and took a third-round win against Emilio Spinozzi with a 5.92s even though I was off it early at only 233mph.
“Frankie meanwhile had some troubles getting down the track during the weekend but eventually ran a 5.99s to best Matt Abel in the first round and then a 5.89s in the third round to take two round wins.
“The crowd was absolutely fantastic all weekend long and the place was packed on Saturday night, and I expect the crowd at Alice Springs will be brilliant as well.”
For US-racer Frankie Taylor, the Desert Nationals will be the last event of his current Down Under Tour.
“I am not all that happy with my showing in Darwin so I will be throwing everything at it in Alice Springs to make sure I leave the Aussie fans with something to remember me by this weekend,” Frankie said.
“This experience with TBR has been fantastic and I have had the best time, hopefully, we can conclude this tour on the best possible note: with a win!”
The crew have interspersed their preparation for this weekend’s racing with plenty of sight-seeing in the Northern Territory.
“It has been a brilliant trip so far up here in the NT,” enthused Ben
“We have been sure to fit in as much sight-seeing as we possibly could, including a trip to visit with Darwin’s famous crocodiles, but now it is time to focus on the racing.
“All three of us and all of our crew are ready to put on a brilliant show for the fans at Alice Springs – and with Frankie making his last stand for this current Down Under tour, he will be one to watch in particular!”
