Competition Bike racer Will Davey tumbled off his Harley-Davidson Destroyer in the braking area at the Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder event last weekend.
Davey’s bike developed a tank slapper motion just after the finish line in the left hand lane and came down, Davey sliding to a stop a hundred metres or so later. Paul Pires was in the right hand lane and unaware of what was going on behind him, as shown by the rather casual peace sign he was giving photographer Grant Stephens.
As a result he suffered a broken collarbone, scapula, eight broken ribs and a punctured lung as well as a few other bumps and lumps. Not a bad list!
From his bed in Westmead Hospital, Davey has asked us to thank the Sydney Dragway officials and first-responders for their quick action. He also wants to thank the IHRA officials for their ongoing concerns for his welfare and especially his fellow competitors who helped pack his bike and pit area.
Davey is hopeful of being released from hospital by the end of this week. Get well soon mate!
