Sam Fenech. I have been trying to come up with what to say after such a tragedy, along with the words to describe the kind of person Sam is, that hasn’t already been said. But that is what Sam’s legacy is, no matter what superlative you can think of to describe a person’s character, you would be able to attribute it to Sam.
As the massive outpour of emotion on social media has shown, Sam in someway left his mark on whoever he engaged over his long career in the sport. On-track, Sam let his engine building and driving do the talking. Off-track, ever smiling and helping whoever needed it.
Personally, the last few days have been the hardest I have ever experienced in the sport. Sam was a close family friend, he was actually the first racer I ever did a media photoshoot for with his “ORSM” Pro Street Torana, our last conversation on the weekend, wasn’t about racing, but his holidays. We are all going to miss him so much.
The loss of Sam will have an undeniable impact on the sport, everyone will process their grief in their own way, but if you need help or want to talk to someone, please do.
I have gone through my archives and put together a compilation of photo memories I had taken of Sam over the years.
We at Drag News Magazine pass on our deepest sympathies and condolences to Sam’s family, many friends, Maurice Fabietti, Mary Fabietti and the entire AC Delco Slammer team.
Thoughts also go to the camera operator injured, and all the best in their recovery.Race
