The Australia Nostalgia Racers Quarter Mile Legends Pioneer Awards that celebrate the historic names in Australian drag racing returned at a new venue in Heathcote Park Raceway after last being run in 2016 at Sydney Dragway.

Despite some soggy and cold conditions, the event got underway last Saturday for some on track nostalgia drags qualifying ahead of the night’s award presentations. Sunday featured the completion of racing as the bench racing continued on the side lines.

One of the highlights included Peter Russo unearthing his iconic “Working Class Hero” Nitro Funny Car from the depths of his race shed for a few throttle whacks.

The Nostalgia Drags always brings out the weird and wonderful.

The legends of our sport accepting Pioneer Awards on the night included

“Jungle Jim” Carter, “Jet Car” Jack MacDonald, Ben Gatt, Geoff Pratt, Peter and Helen Russo, The “Satisfaction” AA/Gas team of Pirotta and Caruana, Warren Parker, Bob Sherry, John Kreis – “A Clockwork Orange” 750 Kwaka, Bill Sivertson, Bill Barclay, Phil Soderstrom John Fleming, Keith “The Rooman” Burgan and Ken Spence – “The Kerang Kid”.

Check out some video highlights featuring some of the weekend’s action.
