After COVID and weather events repeatedly derailed Street Machine Magazine’s Drag Challenge over recent years, the 2023 edition went into the books with 139 starters taking on 1600kms over 5 days at 3 venues.
In the end their were 110 successful finishers with Harry Haig taking out the overall Drag Challenge title with his HQ beast with a total time of 33.832 second, edging out Daniel Szabolics also in a tough HQ streeter who clocked a combined ET of 34.469 seconds.
Racing kicked off at Heathcote Raceway for day 1, before the traversing across regional Victoria would take racers to South Coast Raceway in Portland, then off to Mildura’s Sunset Strip, and back to Heathcote Park Raceway for the final two days of racing.
In other results, Jamie Turner in yet another HQ won the DYO class with a mere 0.013 second five day split. Dan Szabolics, although missing the overall title, did wrap up the Blown Radial class, the Aspirated Radial win went to Keith Hards’ Camaro with a 36.414 second total. In 235, Pelle won the blown division with his Fox Body, totalling 38.212 seconds, while Donnie Zurcas took out Aspirated 235 with a 41.701 total in a Capri. Ryan O’Donohue’s big F-Truck did the job in the Six Cylinder bracket with a 38.092. Outlaw Aspirated was doubled downed on by Harry Haig.
