Queensland’s Wade Wagstaff made the quickest pass by any Australian driver on radial tyres at South Georgia Motorsport Park as part of Lights Out 10.
Wagstaff ran a personal best 3.791 at 196.47mph in his Noonan powered 57 Chev during qualifying for the event, which put him in 21st place ahead of eliminations for the 32 car field (as well as bettering Jeremy Martin’s 3.84, the previous best for an Aussie driver on radials).
In round one Wagstaff faced Texas racer Jeff Naiser, who runs a nitrous Camaro. Naiser got the jump on the tree and out ran Wagstaff in a close 3.75 to 3.82 contest.
Wagstaff (pictured above) was left more than satisfied with his event.
“Lights Out 10 was the best week of racing we’ve ever had,” he said. “Everything went to plan with no issues.
“Our goal after No Mercy (Lights Out’s sister race in October) was to come back to Lights Out and run deep into the 80s or try to dip into the 70s. We were lucky enough to qualify in the top 32 radials cars in the world with a 3.79.
“I can’t thank the people around us enough that have made my father and I’s dream come to life.”
