It’s a surprisingly busy drag racing weekend coming up, with tracks around the country putting on events – why not get out there and support them?

Perth’s season gets underway with what has become one of their biggest events of the season, the Shannons Insurance Power Palooza. There’s a three hour drag racing exhibition from 3.30pm until 6.30pm that features jet dragsters, nitro cars including Michael Brooks’ nostalgia fuel FED and Kyle Putland’s Camaro Outlaw Nitro Funny Car, doorslammers including John Zappia and Wayne Keys and more.

Plus, you can stay afterwards for the burnout show and the speedway, which features the opening round of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series.

Whyalla, SA

It’s opening weekend for the Whyalla Steel City Drag Racing Club Championship, taking place at Steel City Raceway – about a four and a half hour drive from Adelaide. These dedicated people have been bringing drag racing to this remote venue for many years, so why not drive out there and support them?

Gunnedah, NSW

The Tamworth Drag Racing Association are taking over the Gunnedah Airport once again, with not one but two days of racing! This is always a lot of fun and is genuinely no-prep style racing given the airport surface. Details above.

Southeast Queensland

The Road Trip Drag Challenge (not to be confused with Street Machine Drag Challenge) will be a street car event running at three tracks over three days and requiring vehicles to travel between tracks on their own steam, as per Hot Rod Drag Week. They will start at Willowbank Raceway today, before heading to Warwick Dragway on Saturday and Lakeside Raceway on Sunday.

One thing to note is that spectators will only be allowed at Warwick Dragway (which we can highly recommend checking out if you have never been there).
