For the first time in five years anywhere in Australia, spectators at Springmount Raceway next weekend (August 18/19) will be treated to side-by-side wheelstanding performances from the hugely popular Aeroflow Wheelstanders.
Long-time wheelstander pilot Chelsea Leahy in the ‘Nitro Sherrif’ wheelstander will be joined by her younger sister, Shelby Leahy and ‘Miss Behavin,’ in entertaining the crowd as part of the Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship event at Springmount Raceway, located at Mutchilba.
The hugely popular Wheelstanders will be part of what is set to be a massive festival of drag racing, entertainment and family fun for the North Queensland event, taking to the venue alongside a full roster of highly competitive drag racers with fireworks on and off the racetrack.
“There hasn’t been a side-by-side wheelstander performance in Australia since 2018, so we are really looking forward to putting on a show for the crowd at Springmount,” Chelsea Leahy said.
“Springmount is a great facility, and we are really keen to head up there to tropical North Queensland with the Aeroflow Wheelstanders.
“Not only will it be the first time for Shelby and I at Springmount, but it will also be Shelby’s debut performance also, so it is a really exciting time for us. We can’t wait to put on a good show for the crowd, and also see some great sportsman racing while we are there as well!”
As part of their appearance at the event, the Leahy sisters and their impressive machines will also be the centrepiece of the Nitro Wheel Standers ‘Pit Party’ on Saturday at 3.00pm.
“The Pit Party is good fun, and we will be there in the pits all weekend, so people can come and grab a hero card and get it signed and check out the cars,” Chelsea added.
With such an exciting program and children aged 10 and under enjoying free spectator entry with a paying adult, this event has something for the entire family.
The August 18/19 event at Springmount Raceway is the first Eastern Conference event of the newly established Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship, which is part of the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC).
Friday August 18 will host a three-hour test ‘n’ tune from 6.00pm to 9.00pm, before Saturday August 19 hosts a non-stop program of qualifying and racing action. Gates open at 9.00am, with on-track action from 10.30am.
As part of Saturday’s action, the Nitro Wheel Standers ‘Pit Party’ will be held at 3.00pm, with the Aeroflow Wheelstanders to be on-track at 4.30pm, 6.30pm and 8.30pm, while fireworks will light up the night sky.
Taking to the track to battle it out for racing honours and valuable Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship Eastern Conference points will be SuperComp, Performance Bike, Extreme Bike, Pro Radial, Supercharged Outlaws, Top Sportsman, Modified Eliminator, Super Sedan, Modified Bike, Super Street, Real Street, Junior Drag Bike, and Junior Dragster class racers.
