Willowbank Raceway is looking forward to a bumper crowd at the New Year’s Shootout event this weekend.
The situation around the border closure of Queensland to greater Sydney has caused the unfortunate withdrawal of the Read Racing and Premier Hire Racing from their match race at the New Year Shootout event scheduled for the 9th of January.
While both team principles, Bruce Read and Peter Xiberras expressed disappointment at not being able to attend the event, they wished us all the best for what will still be an excellent event and the first major event held at the track since the onset of the COVID-19 virus.
Willowbank Raceway CEO Blair Conaghan said it is all systems go with regards to the event.
“While it is disappointing that the two Top Fuel teams are unable to attend, we still have an outstanding line up of local Queensland competitors who are looking for an opportunity to put on a hell of a show for our fans,” Blair said.
“The event will still showcase the very best that this state has to offer with the majority of the professional competitors from Queensland in attendance. I am aware that a number of competitors are looking for the bragging rights and who will be crowned the quickest and fastest in Queensland,” Blair continued.
The New Year’s Shootout will feature the very best racers from Queensland battling it out for bragging rights and the idea that they are the best of the best.
This unique event returns us to Drag Racing’s roots and will pit both man and machine against each other until there is one left standing – the New Year’s Shootout Champion.
We are excited to see: –
The Steven Reed – Gary Phillips matchup in Pro Alcohol will be a highlight in the Pro Alcohol bracket, but there is also some serious pressure coming from other competitors.
Chris Matheson and John Zara will battle it out in the Top Fuel Motorcycle match race and all eyes will be on whether Chris Matheson can finally break into the 5 second bracket or will John steal his thunder and take home bragging rights.
The Door Wars bracket will pit the best of the Pro Slammer/Pro Mod styled vehicles together to see who has the quickest and fastest sedan in Queensland. The Steve Ham/Ben Bray matchup is also one not to be missed but the Turbo guys have a point to prove.
Pro Stock Motorcycle and Xtreme bike match up will pit the best of each bracket and is the first time these motorcycles have paired off against each other.
With all of these match ups supported by the very best sportsman brackets this event is one not to be missed. In addition, remember that there will be free rides for all children at the event.
We hope to see you on the 9th of January because we cannot wait. You need to get online and purchase your tickets because they are selling fast and remember that we have COVID limits in place.
