Due to further works required on the new concrete racing surface at Willowbank Raceway, the return to racing at the venue has been moved into the new year.
Willowbank Raceway released the following statement. “Last week a full survey of the new racing surface was conducted using electronic equipment by a specialty measuring company. The results of this survey have revealed sections of the new surface that do not meet the stringent specifications required for drag racing surfaces, as required by both Willowbank Raceway and IHRA Australia. As a result, remedial surface grinding will be required to ensure that a high-level racing surface is delivered to our racers. This will unfortunately mean that racing will not be able to resume again before the end of 2023.
“The Project Manager and contractors are working together at present to have these works completed ASAP. Once a more definitive timeline is known, then we will be able to communicate to our volunteers, racers and spectators more accurately as to when operations at the track are planning to be resumed.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding; be rest assured that the final racing surface being delivered will definitely be worth the wait.”
