PremiAir Racing have announced Peter Xiberras is recovering from injuries sustained in his Top Fuel dragster at Nitro Thunder and will be back behind the wheel for the first round of the 400 Thunder championship in November at Sydney Dragway.
Xiberras suffered serious back injuries when he lost control of his Top Fuel dragster after it smoked the tyres, sending the 10000+ horsepower machine into the wall, and impacting heavily with the underside of the chassis.
Not only was it a devastating blow physically for Xiberras, the team was also in the championship hunt at the time.
PremiAir Racing made a statement on their Facebook page announcing Xiberras will be back in the seat for the East Coast Thunder event which opens the new 400 Thunder Series professional championship.
“PremiAir Racing is pleased to announce that Peter Xiberras will be back behind the wheel in the Top Fueler this year,” the statement reads.
“After months of deliberation, Tim and the crew have decided to bring out the gold car, and the team hope to complete some good solid testing between now and November. The boys are working very hard on the car at present, there are adjustments to be made to upgrade the safety of the car, and to get Peter feeling more comfortable in it.
“Peter is continuing to recover well. He is feeling much better, and is happily back at PremiAir. He is looking forward to getting back in the driver’s seat and behind the wheel!”
