Drag racing legend John Zappia has thrown his support behind the Australian Drag Racing Championship, which will feature at this weekend’s Top End Nationals at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip and next weekend’s Desert Nationals at Alice Springs Inland Dragway.

The Australian Drag Racing Championship is a new national championship series announced recently by ANDRA, featuring the Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle Group One brackets at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip, Alice Springs Inland Dragway, Adelaide International Raceway, the Perth Motorplex and Calder Park Raceway.

Also featuring at these events will be rounds of the 2021/2022 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

West Australian racer Zappia has committed to participating in all scheduled events for the new ADRC in his Dananni Hot Shots/Tony’s Auto Wreckers Monaro; COVID-19 permitting.

“I am very excited about the recently announced ADRC – to have a national championship for group one under ANDRA is fantastic and we are very keen to get it going and to get to all of the tracks that are within the Series, starting with Darwin and Alice Springs,” he said.

“We love racing in the Northern Territory at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip and Alice Springs Inland Dragway. The weather is always great, and we love getting up there and away from the Wintery conditions down in Perth.

“The road trip between the two tracks for the back-to-back weekends is great too and we get to go to different places and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

“The tracks themselves are nice and flat, they are really awesome and with some good track prep I expect we will see some record numbers set at these events.

“We have undertaken our usual routine in preparation and upon arrival we will take a look at the track and make adjustments to suit what we think it will take.

“My best in Alice Springs is a 5.79 and my best in Darwin is a 5.69, and hopefully we can improve on both of those markers – that will depend though on what the weather will bring.

“I hope that we can see lots of racers from the other States come on board – I know with COVID-19 it is not easy but we all need to try and make the extra effort to come to all these rounds so we can have as high of a car count as we can to get this Series off and running,” Zappia concluded, while thanking his valued supporters Dananni Hot Shots, Tony’s Auto Wreckers, Crow Cams, Noonan Ultimate Race Engineering, Fuchs Lubricants, Striker Crushing and Screening, WA Suspensions, Muscle Car Warehouse, Shacks Automotive Paints, Motec and Hoosier Tires, amongst others.
