Australian Top Doorslammer Champion John Zappia took the win in the first of three rounds in the eighth mile Slamfest Series organized by Pro Modified Australia, with a super consistent performance.

In front of an impressive crowd for a regional track, Zap had his Fuchs/Procomp Electronics Monaro in good form, taking lowest et and highest speed for the event.

“We are happy with the result” said Zap, “We were all a little unsure how good the track was and were perhaps a little cautious in our tune. But the new concrete start line aided by some good preparation proved super sticky all day, and we could have thrown much more at it. In the end we went for consistency, and the win is great for Fuchs and Procomp Electronics and our other sponsors”.

Zappia drew the inform Peter Kapiris in round one, but the HQ Holden Monaro’s 4.03 @ 188mph was too quick for the new Saratoga’s 4.14 @ 177mph.

“We turned the car around and put a slightly hotter tune in the car, and were ready to take on young Benny Bray. The car went straight through for a 4.05 @ 192.5 mph win, with Benny shutting off early”.

The final was up against Russell Pavey in the Corvette. With a hole shot Russell gave it all, but the power of the Fuchs/Procomp Electronics Monaro proved too much, and a 4.05 @ 187mph pipped the Corvette who managed a 4.26 @ 165mph.

“The event was a success with good atmosphere and crowd attendance. Most of us racers will be keen to come back and hot our tunes up for this new surface in the future, and a three second pass will not take long to accomplish”.

Zappia Racing head off to Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portand for Round 2 of the Slamfest on on 3- 4th Feb 2012.
