Russo’s Supercheap debut delayed

Veteran Funny Car racer Peter Russo’s long awaited return to Australian drag racing has been delayed with the forced cancellation of this weekend’s second round of Willowbank Raceway’s New Year Series.

The four-time Australian Champion and 2000 AHRA World Finals (USA) winner had secured last minute support from leading Australasian retailer Supercheap Auto for his homecoming after racing periodically in the US for the past 12 years.

“It’s been a long, long time since we last raced at home and I was looking forward to firing our Supercheap Auto nitro Funny Car at Willowbank,” Russo said.

“It’s disappointing the meeting has been cancelled but with the current weather situation and the long term forecast looking bleak it was a good, early call by the track management.

“We’ll see what race dates are available and hopefully get back on track soon.” he said
