Modified Bike racer Lindsay Wood says despite securing maximum points at the recent Westernationals he won’t go on to chase the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship nationally.
Wood said as well as his first Westernationals victory, it was also his first track championship series event win.
“It was a fantastic feeling, even getting the semi finals was great, it’s been a long wait to win a national open event and to win that one just makes it even better,” he said.
The win gave Wood 100 points in the national series, which has a 300 point cap before the final event in December, but he said the remainder of his series is not on his agenda.
“I didn’t run Modified Bike in the first Aeroflow round (in January) which makes it bit hard without the extra points and I haven’t budgeted for it,” he said.
The Kawasaki Wood rides is not short on horsepower, a 2007 ZX14 running the same turbocharger as a Subaru Impreza.
Wood stays extra busy on race weekend, competing alongside his son James and sometimes riding in two categories with a Yamaha R1 running in Competition Bike.
“I love seeing the look on his (James’) face when I tell him he is walking home if he beats me, which he has done once this year,” he laughed.
“There’s not much of the season left and I was going to run Comp Bike for most of it but we have shelved the R1 until we can get it sorted out so I will see if I can take out the remaining two rounds (in Modified Bike).”
